Consulting

Work With Me

I help teams get useful work out of spatial data: reviewing the GIS setup you already have, building the maps and dashboards you need, or advising while your own team builds. Every project starts with a call, and you get a written proposal before any work begins.

Three ways I can help

If you are not sure which of these fits, that is what the first call is for.

Audit and roadmap

I review the GIS setup and product plans you have now, then tell you what to fix first.

What you get

  • A written assessment of where things stand
  • Recommendations, in priority order
  • A 90-day plan
  • Guidance on tools and stack choices

Not included: Making the changes

Build and delivery

I build the thing: maps, dashboards, data pipelines, or a specific product feature.

What you get

  • The build itself
  • Documentation and handover
  • Weekly progress calls
  • Two rounds of revisions

Not included: Long-term maintenance

For product teams

Product strategy

If your team is building a map, a dashboard, or a location feature and wants a second opinion before the build grows, this is that.

  • Deciding what to build, and what to leave out
  • Testing an idea with a rough prototype before you commit to it
  • Reviewing how the map behaves: search, filters, layers, and legends
  • Reviewing how the data is stored, served, and handed over

I work in Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS, deck.gl, PostGIS, vector tiles, R, and Python.

Process

What happens next

  1. We talk

A call about your project, your goals, and the constraints you are working inside.

  2. You get a proposal

A written proposal with scope, timeline, deliverables, and pricing, before any work starts.

  3. I do the work

I deliver in stages, with regular check-ins and room for feedback along the way.

Common questions

What kinds of projects do you take on?

Custom map visualizations, spatial data analysis, GIS pipeline development, and product guidance for teams building geo features.

How small a project will you take?

There is no strict minimum for consulting or map-making. Training starts at a half-day workshop. Retainers start at three months.

Do you work with clients in other countries?

Yes. I work with teams worldwide over video calls and async collaboration.

What happens on the first call?

You describe the problem, I ask questions about your data, users, and deadlines, and we work out which of the three options above fits. There is no charge for it, and no obligation afterwards.
